Hot Water Accidents...

A lot of times these kinds of accidents can be avoided.

The other day a friend told me that her 8-month old daughter was in the hospital from a hot water accident.

How did it happen?

She had boiled some water to bath the child. She poured the hot water in her little bath-tub without mixing with cold water and left it to grab the baby's cloths in the other room. He unsuspecting husband thot he should help by giving the fussy baby a bath. So he takes her cloths off and puts the child in her bath tub, in a standing position...unknown to him that the wife was not done prepping the water. When the wife heard the loud and extra-ordinarily piercing scream, she said she just knew what had happened.

It was too late, the child was already burn.

Could this have been avoided? ABSOLUTELY!

How?
1. Never! Ever! Ever! Ever! Leave HOT water or any HOT liquid unattended to.
2. Never! Ever! Ever! Assume the other person in the house knows what you are thinking...

How to treat hot water burn (First Aid)

  1. Pour cold water on the affected area to dissipate the pain. If there is not cold water in sight, use any harmless liquid
  2. Call for help if the victim is unresponsive
  3. Do not rub the burned surface to avoid tissue damage. Just pat the area, gently.
